Dotted Lines by Devney Perry is the fifth and final book in the Runaway Series. This book focuses on Clara Saint-James and Karson Avery. The Cadillac finally gets to its destination reuniting Karson with Claire who is now a single mom to a six year old son August. Her life is in Welcome Arizona, and his is in California. These two have so much history together, but timing was never on their side.
This book shows the struggle of their relationship as runaways in a junkyard after Londyn, Gemma, and Kaitlyn had turned 18 and left. Clara had had feelings for Karson but Karson belonged to someone else. And after Londyn had left the insecurities never left Clara, she had felt second best and worried that Karson still had feelings for his ex, no matter how many times he tried to show her otherwise. These two finally come together but with timing not being on their side their relationship is short lived.
The second part of the book is in Karson's point of view, and he is struggling with this sudden visit from Clara. His feelings for her had never gone away, he does have an issue with these feelings as he is not Clara's to keep. He has a girlfriend who is great to him and loves him. But he has never said those words to her because even after twelve years, he still cannot get Clara out of his mind or out of his heart.
This book being the conclusion and the first time we ever actually meet Karson seemed to be a bit rushed for me. Especially with them being away from each other for so long everything that happened in a matter of days. The writing was great, I loved that we got to see what was going on with the junk yard now and how much love Lou really had for those kids. However, I was not a fan of the emotional cheating even if it was with Clara. I also did not like that Clara had to be the one to always see Karson with someone else. Yes, Karson saw Clara with another man online, but it’s not the same. I felt bad for Clara more than anything. August was adorable and having a boy that age I totally got his little big personality and I feel like I connected with him most throughout this book. It was not a bad book, I just wish there was more to this couple and making them a family than there was.
Even though this is a standalone I would recommend reading the rest of the series to really get what's going on around the junk yard and with Lou. I love that we got a glimpse into everyone's future at the end. I am going to really miss this series and I can’t wait to reread soon.
