Muses & Melodies is the third book in the Hush Note series. It follows hush notes guitarist Nixon Winters as well as Zoe Shannon who is Hush Notes assistant to the manager. With Nixon straight out of rehab and his known addictions to drugs, alcohol and sex Zoe is assigned to keep him on the straight and narrow for the next six months and in exchange she will get her own band to manage.
Nixon is a lot to handle and does not let anyone in, his bandmates are the closest people he has in his life and they do not know all of his demons. Most people do not actually care about the man himself but just the rock star to try to get close enough to care to try to figure him out. In this book he starts out being a complete jerk to Zoe and some of the things he does is funny, other things I would have totally hit him for. Throughout the book though, you see Zoe is really trying to get to know him as the man he is and you see him open up to her and try to be a good person where she is concerned. She notices things about him that no one else has cared enough about to even notice. I love that you can see his struggle to stay sober and keep away from his self-destruction tendencies once he is in the real world, and how different he turned once he got out of the spotlight and the normal pressures of his life. This book has you feeling all the feels, it’s so heartfelt and heartbreaking; its laugh out loud funny and you will also want to slap some since into Nixon sometimes. I love that Zoe refused to be walked over and treated like she was below anyone, she had a backbone and knew her worth. However, she also knew Nixon enough to help him help himself, give him a push but let him do the work to pave his own way to what he needs in life to be happy.
This is my first book I have read by Rebecca Yarros but it will not be my last. I could not put this book down. There was nothing lacking when it came to the story line and the issues that came with the problems were solved in a manner that was very believable and not just "Oh I found love my problems must be solved". And that to me made this book utterly amazing.
"If I'm stuck here with you, then at least tell me you know that Shannon isn't my first name, right?"
