Reckless Refuge is the fourth book in the Wrecked Series. We were introduced to Shay in the previous book; caretaker of Harbor Island and a loner who would not get close to anyone. We knew she was hiding from something but not sure what. Brody James bought Harbor Island to escape the horrors he had to deal with in New York City, an artist whose work was tainted with crimes and horrors no one should have to deal with. These two will need confide in each other to help move on with their lives and live it to the fullest as well as try to escape the dangers of the person who is going around the islands killing people to bring out the past hurt both of these characters have endured.
I love that these two had a relationship that built over time, they both had to earn each other’s trust and push one another out of their own heads. The relationship Shay had with one of the characters and the mixed feelings made this story so unique, that even though they did something so horrible in her past she still had memories of a happy life and love with this person even still, but also was so afraid of them she had to disappear for her own safety as she has the scars and memories of all that this person is capable of.
The friendship with the characters from the previous books were great, I was not sure how that was going to work as the last books were around the best friends, but Catherine did a great job having both Shay and Brody join their group and grow close to everyone.
I honestly loved everything about this book! You also do not have to read the previous books in this series to be able to follow along or enjoy it.
The set up for the next book was AMAZING and I honestly don’t think I can wait to know what finally happens with Hunter. I have been looking forward to that book since the first one and the hype is so much now.
ARC exchanged for honest review.
